Apr 16, 2018Mangan, 92, of Depot St., Burke died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family and aided by Hospice of the North Country.Born on March 28, 1926 in Rutland, Vt., he was the son of Bernard and Jenny (Gallagher) Mangan.He was married to Joyce May on Nov. 10, 1951 in St. Mary’s Church, St. Albans, Vt. by Msgr. Welch.Mr. Mangan graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in Rutland, VT. He enlisted in 1944 in the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed as a locomotive engineer for the Rutland Railroad in central Vermont for 32 years. Mr. Mangan was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Central Vermont Retired Railroad Employees, Disabled American Veterans and the Franklin County Humane Society in both St. Albans, Vt. and Malone, N.Y.He is survived by his wife of 66 years; three children, Donald Mangan and his wife, Ruth of East Fairfield, Vt., David Mangan and his wife, Debbie of Alburgh, Vt., Brenda Carpenter of Champlain, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, Kaitlin, Morgan and Riley Mangan, Stephanie, Matthew, Ellen, Sara and Danny Mangan, Kathleen, Taylor and Kristin Carpenter; several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Bernard, Francis, Tommy and Paul Mangan; three sisters, Patricia Manlevy, Joan Miles and Mary Gennette.There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10 at St. George’s Church, Burke with Rev. John Looby officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Woodstock, Vt. Donations in his memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, Malone, N.Y. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.
